SAMPLE CUSTOMER REVIEW :

(1) OK but overpriced and overhyped. Not good value. - This product is OK, but overpriced. Our 3 year-old found it interesting, and it kept him occupied for a while. Although I bought the 71-piece set, many of the larger constructions cannot be put together, or are not stable, without buying the largest $120 set.

I'm concerned about misrepresentations that seem to be associated with the product and its promotion on Amazon. First, the advertised number of pieces is misleading: the 71 piece set I bought has only 48 magnetic pieces. It has 15 "cards" that are pieces of plastic or paperboard that could be used to decorate constructions, but that don't seem useful in practice. Second, the spate of uncritical 5-star reviews, all acknowledging being compensated, don't give a fair reflection of the product's merits. They do show that the sellers have put together a coordinated promotional effort just before the holiday season. Overall, I feel manipulated, and would not buy something like this again - especially not at the $70 price. There are loopholes in Amazon's product review system, and the marketers, going under the names "Magical Magnet", "Magformers" and "Magmagic" are exploiting them to their benefit and our detriment as consumers.

FYI, the number of magnetic pieces in the various sets are as follows (this from the accompanying, very poorly written manual):
20pcs set: 14 magnet pieces.
40pcs set: 34 magnet pieces.
52pcs set: 38 magnet pieces.
71pcs set: 48 magnet pieces.
77pcs set: 62 magnet pieces.
198pcs set: 136 magnet pieces.

(2) Good product, downside for special needs. - I got this for a 16 year old boy with Autism because he loves to build things and is very creative! The quality seems to be pretty good so far. The ferris wheel would be hard for a child to do on their own, but gives a perfect opportunity to do it together! The only downsides I didn't foresee were the triangle pieces are just the right size that while playing, he put the piece on like a ring and couldn't get it off without some help. (This should not be an issue if its a child-sized finger, but at 16 you're nearly full grown.) Also, the ferris wheel plays music that is very loud, and I could not find a volume control. You can shut it off at any time, but you will not have the lights either. All-in-all, I think he liked the gift, but if you intend to give this to someone with special needs or someone older than the targeted consumer, just keep an eye on those triangle pieces and loud music. This does not effect my review because this IS intended to be a child's toy. All the downsides would likely not be an issue for them, and I think it's a good product overall.
